abstract | Hard waxes emulsifiable in water consisting of homogeneous terpolymers of ethylene with - based on the weight of the terpolymer - 1 to 8% by weight of C 3 - to C 8 -olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids, and 0.5 to 10% by weight of C 1 to C 12 alkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids with the following characteristics: n n n The hard waxes used in care products result in glossy and tack-free films. The hard waxes are obtained by copolymerizing ethylene with olefinically unsaturated C 3 to C 8 carboxylic acids and unsaturated C 3 to C e carboxylic esters with C 1 to C 12 alkanols in a continuous procedure in the presence of free radical initiators at temperatures of 150 to 300 ° C and pressures of 1000 to 3000 bar in a weight ratio of ethylene to acid to acrylate such as 500: 1: 1 to 20: 1: 1.
