titleOfInvention Teat dilator
abstract A dilator (126) for a teat of a milking cow facilitates the flow of fluid through the teat. The dilator has a body (127) having a passage (129) designed to be positioned in communication with a teat duct. An elongate tubular member (128) extends from the body (127) into the conduit. The tubular member (128) has a passage (129) allowing fluid to flow through the dilator (126). A one-way valve (139) mounted on the body (127) allows fluid to exit the dilator (126) and prevents external foreign substances from entering the teat passage and conduit. The valve (139) has flexible side walls (141-142) terminating in normally closed lips (146-147). A slit-shaped orifice (148) is formed between the lips. The slit-shaped port (148) can be opened to facilitate the introduction of drug compounds into the teat and udder of the mammal. An introducer (152) having a rod (153) passing through the one-way valve (139) and tubular member (128) is used to place the dilator (126) into the teat duct and into the teat conduit. the outlet of the duct, the valve has one way (139) being placed at the end of the teat.
