Products of the reaction of a linear prepolymer or polymer containing at least one free acid group at each chain end, optionally dissolved in a non-polar solvent, with an alcoholate of a metal with a valence greater than 2, such as titanium, zirconium or cerium, the alcoholate being used in an amount such that the alcoholate functions are in excess relative to the stoichiometric amount of the acid functions carried by the prepolymer or polymer and the reaction mixture being stirred in the presence of moisture up to obtaining a product, for example in the form of a homogeneous gel, in which the hydrogen atoms of the acid groups located at the end of the prepolymer or polymer chain are substituted by an atom of the metal itself linked to another atom of this metal by metal-oxygen-metal bonds. |
