Aqueous plastic dispersions with high pigment binding capacity, which in combination with water-dilutable organic solvents are suitable as binders for printing inks or pastes, are produced by radical emulsion polymerization of water-insoluble, ethylenically unsaturated monomers and an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid. The emulsion polymerization is carried out by the feed process in such a way that 1-4% by weight of a water-soluble salt of the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid is dissolved in an aqueous receiver and the water-insoluble monomers and at least 2% by weight of α, β- unsaturated carboxylic acid in free form or partially in salt form is gradually added. |
