Hematin concentrate containing 15 to 55% hematin in an easily assimilated form, useful as a pharmaceutical compound against anemia and as an iron enrichment agent for food products, and process for the preparation of this hematin concentrate from a mixture of hematin and blood substance obtained by separating hemoglobin, for example, whole blood or red blood cells, by treating this mixture with a dehydrating agent, preferably a lower alcohol or a mixture alcohols, having a pH of at least 8.0 or in the presence of a substance facilitating separation, preferably imidazole or an imidazole derivative, with a pH of at least 6.0 preferably from 6.5 to 8.5, and the solid blood substance is then separated and the hematin concentrate is extracted from the remaining solution; the simultaneous blood substance, mainly from globin, is intended for use in food and fodder. |
