A surgical dressing comprises activated charcoal, preferably as activated charcoal cloth, which is impregnated with an anti-microbial agent, the adsorptive sites of the activated charcoal being no more than 20% saturated with the anti-microbial agent. The antimicrobial agent is preferably iodine, in an amount which causes approximately 5% saturation of the adsorptive sites of the activated charcoal. n An alternative dressing comprises a foamed elastomer filled with activated charcoal powder which has been impregnated up to 20% saturation with anti-microbial agent. |
