abstract | Thermoplastic polyester resin system with four moldable components, flame resistant, aged and improved. Two different polyester resins are used in the composition. The composition contains a relatively fast-reacting unsaturated polyester resin having a hydroxy to carboxyl group ratio of 5.7 to 0.8, and an acid number of at least 18 and an average molecular weight of about 800 to 5,000 The polyester is present in an amount of about 5-15% by weight of the composition. A second unsaturated polyester resin is present with a hydroxyl-carboxyl ratio of 5.7 to 0.8, an acid number of about 8 to 17, and an average molecular weight of about 800 to 5000. The second polyester is present in an amount of about 5 to 15% by weight. The fourth component is an unsaturated brominated polyester resin present in the proportion of 1 to 4% by weight approximately. The system also contains 35 to 45% aluminum trihydrate and 0.5 to 2% by weight antimony trioxide. Inert fill materials are also present such as reinforcing fibers or inert inorganic materials. |
