titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for the submerged culture of cell cultures
abstract In a method and a device for submerged cultivation of human and animal cell cultures, in a cell cultivation vessel (1) with a centrally arranged permeator (8), which is simultaneously designed as a guide tube and forms a loop reactor, and which is provided on both sides with gas-permeable membranes, a gas of defined composition is introduced through the hollow porous support body (21) of the permeator (8) on one side of fresh gas and exhaust gas is discharged on the other side. The gas releases oxygen on its way through the membranes and absorbs carbonic acid. The nutrient substrate and the tissue cells are kept in suspension by means of a stirrer (18) which is fitted inside the permeator (8). Foaming problems do not arise since no gas bubbles can enter the medium.
