abstract The present invention provides a 2-halogeno-4-alkyl-4,7-­ndihydro-7-oxo-thieno[3,2-b]pyridine-6-carboxylic acid of the ngeneral formula n nwherein X represents a halogen atom and R represents a nlower alkyl group, nor a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof at the carboxyl ngroup, and an antimicrobial agent comprising as an active ningredient the above compound. n The compound is useful for protecting a warm-blooded nanimal from bacterial infection. n The present invention also provides new intermediates nfor production of the compound.
