titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of nickel ylides containing directly sulfonated ylide ligands |
abstract | A process is provided for preparing nickel ylides which nare themselves novel compounds defined by the following nFormula I: n nwherein R₁, R₂, R₃, and R₇ are either alike or different nmembers selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, nalkyl radicals having from about one to about 24 carbon natoms, preferably from about one to about 10 carbon atoms; naryl radicals having from about six to about 20 carbon atoms, npreferably from about six to about 10 carbon atoms; alkenyl nradicals having from about two to about 30 carbons atoms, npreferably from about two to about 20 carbon atoms; ncycloalkyl radicals having from about three to about 40 ncarbon atoms, preferably from about three to about 30 ncarbon atoms; aralkyl and alkaryl radicals having from about nsix to about 40 carbon atoms, preferably from about six to nabout 30 carbon atoms; a halogen radical selected from the ngroup consisting of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine, npreferably chlorine; a hydroxyl group; an alkoxy or aryloxy ngroup; and a hydrocarbyl group, such as defined above, ncarrying halogen, hydroxyl or alkoxy or aryloxy; R₄, R₅ and nR₆ are either alike or different members selected from the ngroup consisting of a hydrocarbyl group as defined above, a nsulfonato group (-SO₃⁻) or a sulfonated hydrocarbyli group; nM is sulfur or oxygen, preferably oxygen; E is phosphorus, narsenic, antimony or nitrogen, preferably phosphorus; and F nis phosphorus, arsenic or antimony, preferably phosphorus. nThe process comprises sulfonating a metal ylide defined by nthe following Formula II: n nto obtain the sulfonated ylide defined by the following nFormula III: n nwherein R₁, R₂, R₃, R₇, F and M are as defined above. The nsulfonated ylide is reacted with a base to obtain the metal nylide defined by the following Formula IV: |
