titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of nickel ylides containing ylide ligands with a sulfonated group v component |
abstract | A process is provided for preparing nickel ylides nwhich are themselves novel compourds defined by the nfollowing Formula I: n nwherein R₁, R₂, R₃, R₄, R₅, R₆, R₇ and R₈ are either alike nor different members selected from the group consisting nof hydrogen, alkyl radicals having from about one to nabout 24 carbon atoms, preferably from about one to nabout 10 carbon atoms; aryl radicals having from about nsix to about 20 carbon atoms, preferably from about six nto about 10 carbon atoms; alkenyl radicals having from nabout two to about 30 carbon atoms, preferably from nabout two to about 20 carbon atoms; cycloalkyl radicals nhaving from about three to about 40 carbon atoms, prefnerably from about three to about 30 carbon atoms; naralkyl and alkaryl radicals having from about six to nabout 40 carbon atoms, preferably from about six to nabout 30 carbon atoms; a halogen radical selected from nthe group consisting of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and niodine, preferably chlorine; a hydroxyl group; an alkoxy nor aryloxy group; a hydrocarbyl group, such as defined nabove, carrying halogen, hydroxyl or alkoxy or aryloxy; nand a sulfonato group (-SO₃⁻) or an alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, ncycloalkyl, aralkyl or alkaryl group carrying a sulfonato ngroup; provided that at least one of R₁, R₂ and R₃ is a nsulfonato group or an alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, naralkyl or alkaryl, as defined above, carrying a sulfonato ngroup; M is sulfur or oxygen, preferably oxygen; E is nphosphorus, arsenic, antimony or nitrogen, preferably nphosphorus; and F is phosphorus, arsenic or antimony, npreferably phosphorus. The process comprises reacting na ligand defined by the following formula: n nwith an alpha-substituted ketone or aldehyde or an alphansubstituted thioketone or thioaldehyde defined by the nfollowing formula: n nto obtain the metal salt defined by the following Fornmula II: n nwherein R₁, R₂, R₃, R₇, R₈, F and M are as defined above nand X is a halogen radical selected from the group connsisting of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine, prefernably chlorine and bromine, a tosyl group (a tolune sulfonnate group), or an acetate group. This metal salt is nreacted with a base to obtain the novel ylide defined nby the following Formula III: n nwherein R₁, R₂, R₃, R₇, R₈, F and M are as defined above. nThis ylide is then reacted with (1) a zero valent nickel ncompound and (2) a ligand having the formula: n nwherein R₄, R₅, R₆ and E are as defined above. |
