titleOfInvention | Process for the halogenation of possibly substituted 4-tert.-butyl toluenes and the mixtures obtained therefrom of possibly substituted 4-tert.-butylbenzal halogenides, 4-tert.-butylbenzyl halogenides and 4-tert.-butylbenzo trihalogenides |
abstract | Optionally substituted 4-tert-butyltoluene is halogenated with 0.5 to 3.2 moles of bromine chloride as halogenating agent per mole of the butyltoluene mentioned at 40 to 230 ° C., optionally in the presence of inert organic solvents or diluents. Depending on the molar amount of bromine chloride, mixtures are obtained which contain 90 to 93% by weight of the associated benzal halide, 3 to 4% of the associated benzyl halide and 4 to 6% of the associated benzotrihalide, or mixtures which contain 15 to 95% of the associated Contain benzotrihalide and 5 to 85% of the associated benzal halide, or mixtures containing 40 to 85% of the associated benzal halide and 15 to 60% of the associated benzyl halide, or mixtures containing 95 to 100% of the associated benzal halide and 0 to 5% of the associated Contain benzyl halide. The halogen entering the benzyl halides, benzal halides and benzotrihalides mentioned is predominantly bromine. |
