Compounds of the formulan whereinn A is SO 2 N(R 3 IC(O)N(R 4 )R 5 ; R is C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 3 alkenyl, OCH 3 , NO 2 , CI, Br, SO 2 NR 1 R 2 and SO 2 N(OCH 3 )CH 3 ; R 1 and R 2 are independently C 1 -C 3 alkyl; R 3 is H or CH 3 ; R 4 is H, CH 3 or OCH 3 ; R 5 isn n X,X 2 , Y, Y 1 and Y 2 are selected from various substituents; Z is N, methine or substituted methine; Q is O or CH 2 ; and their agricultural salts; possess herbicidal activity, especially against broad-leaf weeds. They are also of interest as plant growth regulants. The compounds may be formulated for use in conventional manner. n The compounds may be made by a variety of routes, e.g. by reacting an appropriately substituted thiophenesulfonyl isocyanaten with an appropriate amine NHR 4 R 6 . The substituted thiophenesulfonyl isocyanates are novel intermediates. Other novel intermediates are analogues of the thiophenesulfonamides wherein X and Y are both chlorine. |
