abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of acyl cyanides of the general formula where R represents optionally substituted alkyl having up to 8 carbon atoms, optionally substituted cycloalkyl having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, optionally substituted aryl or an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic radical which may additionally be fused to a benzene ring.n n n The acyl cyanides (1) are obtained by reacting corresponding carboxylic acid fluorides of the general formula R-CO-F (11) with alkali metal cyanides, optionally in the presence of a diluent, at temperatures between 10 and 200 ° C.n n n The acyl cyanides (1) can be used as intermediates, e.g. can be used for the preparation of known herbicides.
