Acidic hydrolysates of plants containing pentose, in particular sulfite waste liquor, are treated by heating in a countercurrent heat exchanger (W1) and a reactor (R), the pentoses being converted to furfural and the hydrolyzate heated and reacted in the reactor (R) as a heating medium in the countercurrent heat exchanger (W1 ) serves. The reaction is advantageously carried out at a temperature above 200 ° C. and with a residence time of less than one minute in a tubular reactor (R).n n n After the reaction, the substances to be obtained, such as furfurol, formic acid and acetic acid, are obtained from the reacted hydrolyzate by distillation and, if appropriate, by using extractants. |
