abstract | Production of alkali salts of phenylglycine by reacting aniline with formaldehyde and hydrocyanic acid under certain reaction conditions with regard to temperature, reaction time and hydrocyanic acid concentration and hydrolysis of the phenylglycine in the absence or in the presence of aniline in an amount between 0 and 0.2 mol of aniline per mol of phenylglycine nitrile with alkali metal lye in a ratio of 1 to 1.05 mole of alkali metal hydroxide per mole of phenylglycine nitrile in the presence of alcohols, aromatic hydrocarbons and / or aliphatic hydrocarbons as an organic solvent in an amount of 5 to 200 percent by weight and water in an amount of 50 to 500 percent by weight, based on Starting aniline. The N-phenylglycine salts obtainable by the process of the invention are valuable starting materials for the production of dyes, fungicides, bactericides, textile auxiliaries, anti-aging agents and inhibitors of anti-freeze agents. |
