titleOfInvention Disposable electrosurgical instrument
abstract A disposable instrument is suitable for use in electrosurgical operations such as coagulation procedures used in unblocking the fallopian tubes, and features an improved electrode and switch assembly that allows interchangeable but permanent electrode mounting (13, 14 ) of a length and a configuration chosen inside a handle (10). In a conventional manner, the electrodes may be of the type having tips normally spaced apart from each other (13 ', 14') which, by actuation of a piston (18) provided to be able to move at the same time. through the handle, are gathered to grip or surround the proboscis or other tissue to clot. The interchangeable but positive connection of the electrodes in the housing (10) brings them into direct electrical connection with electrical contacts (90) in a specific manner so that the connection and mounting of the electrodes cannot be broken. An improved control circuit (20) for the instrument provides normal interruption of the electrical circuit to the electrodes except when the electrode tips have been advanced to the horn engagement position, as described. A switch (22) in the side wall of the housing is positioned relative to the control circuit so as to allow positive movement in a direction establishing closure of the electrode circuit only when the electrode tips are in the engaged position. of the trunk.
