abstract The invention relates to a method and an installation for the production of brine from a mass of metal halide containing soluble impurities. The mass of metal halide is advanced from top to bottom in an upper washing chamber (1) then a lower chamber (3), against the flow of an aqueous solution. In the upper chamber (1), the impurities are dissolved in a fraction of the solution coming from the lower chamber (3) then converted into insoluble compounds which migrate to the lower chamber (3); another fraction of the solution entrains these insoluble compounds towards a third chamber (5) where they flocculate then towards the lower chamber (3). The invention applies to the production of saturated brines of sodium chloride.
