abstract |
Coating compositions contain hydroxy esters, aminoplast and acrylic polyol oligomer. The esters may be formed by the reaction of C 2 -C 12 diols or epoxy compounds with C 2 -C 13 aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, or anhydrides or alkyl esters thereof. Bis-(ß-hydroxyalkyl) esters, such as bis-(ß- hydroxyethyl)adipate or azelate are preferred. N-methylol groups and/or N-methylol ether group-containing amino resins may be used as aminoplast and obtained by reaction of an aldehyde, such as formaldehyde, with a compound containing amino or amido groups, such as melamine or urea. Suitable oligomers have a weight average molecular weight of from 400 to 30,000 and a dispersity of from 1.1 to 10. These hydroxyl functional polymers may contain units of hydroxyalkyl acrylates and / or methacrylates. |
