abstract A liquid crystal composition for multiplexed twisted neumatic displays comprises:n (a) From 3 to 5 cyanobiphenyl compounds:n R is selected from the group consisting of straight chain alkyl groups having 2 to 10 carbon atoms, the propoxy radical and the substituentn R' is a straight chain alkyl group having 3 to 5 carbon atoms, and the saturated ring has a trans conformation, at least one of said compounds having R as an alkyl group with 2 to 5 carbon atoms, and at least one of said compounds having R as an alkyl group with 7 to 10 carbon atoms; (b) at least one cyclohexane carboxylate ester:n R is a straight chain alkyl group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, R 2 is a straight chain alkoxy group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, and the saturated ring has a trans conformation; and (c) at least one para-substituted phenyl benzoate ester:n R 3 is a straight chain alkyl group having 3 to 7 carbon atoms, R' is a straight chain alkyl group having 5 to 9 carbon atoms.
