titleOfInvention Process for preparing a weather-resistant and/or light-stable rutile titanium dioxide pigment
abstract In a process for the production of titanium dioxide pigment, titanium dioxide hydrate is precipitated hydrolytically and optionally doped, calcined, quenched and ground. In order to form a photostable and / or weather-resistant titanium dioxide-rutile pigment, calcined titanium dioxide is subjected to a specific tempering in an oxygen-containing atmosphere in the range from 250 to 1000 ° C. in a process of the type mentioned and the temperature-controlled material is quenched. To form a photostable TiO2 rutile pigment, the material tempered at 750 to 950 ° C or the material tempered at 250 to 500 ° C is quenched. To form a weather-resistant TiO2 rutile pigment, the material tempered at a temperature from more than 500 ° C. to less than 750 ° C. is quenched. The tempered material is quenched with water, air or a water-containing air flow.
