abstract | The invention relates to a process for the recovery of carboxylic acids from mixtures containing glycol esters derived from these acids. It consists in reacting these mixtures (4) with boiling water (5) and entraining the carboxylic acid formed by means of water by azeotropic distillation so as to separate a mixture of carboxylic acid and water (6). The latter is subjected to extractive distillation using an organic solvent (12) which is not soluble in water and in which the water is not soluble. A mixture (14) of water and organic solvent is thus separated from a solution of carboxylic acid in the organic solvent (13). The process is applicable to mixtures of esters obtained during the epoxidation of olefins by the intervention of carboxylic peracids. |
