abstract A moulding process is described which comprises introducing into a mould an essentially non-cross-linked polymer of an ethylenically unsaturated hydroxy ester in the presence of an acidic or basic esterification catalyst and subjecting the polymer to conditions under which cross-linking takes place. The non-cross-linked polymer is prepared by a process wherein a monomer mixture comprising an hydroxy alkyl acrylate or methacrylate or an ethylenically unsaturated amide is polymerised in a solvent which is a solvent for the monomer but not for the resulting polymer at the polymerisation temperature, the polymerisation being carried out in the presence of a colloid stabiliser so that polymer precipitated from the solvent as polymerisation proceeds forms a flocculated or colloidal dispersion of polymer in the solvent.
