abstract Method for determining the thickness of a wall load which forms against the side wall of a rotary centrifuge basket (12) by the flow of a load material through the basket, comprising the steps of: establishing a capacitance across the basket load space (s) and distinguishing any change in capacitance that would result from the thickness of the wall charge formed by the flow. An apparatus for determining the thickness of the wall load formed against the side wall of the centrifuge basket (12) comprises an electrically conductive plate (36) arranged in the basket internally of the load space (S), and a current source (38) for the establishment of an electric field (38) between the plate and the side wall. A capacitance measuring device (41) distinguishes any change in capacitance resulting from the formation of a wall load in the basket. The device (41) is connected to a logic network (74) which controls the loading rate.
