abstract The immunochemical method to detect prostatic acid phosphatases is used in the clinical laboratory for prostate cancer research and for determinations of enzymes and proteins. An acid, isoenzymatic, phosphatase antigen is prepared by isolating a purified acid phosphatase from human prostate cancer tissue. The antigen stimulates the production of diagnostic antibodies which are very specific, do not interfere with other acid phosphatase isoenzymes and can be used in counter-current immunoelectrophoresis (showing sensitivity of 0.4 IU enzyme activity or 20 ng / ml protein enzyme) and in a solid phase fluorescence immunoassay (showing a sensitivity of 60 pg / ml protein enzyme with excitation of the hydrolysis product of alpha-naphthol at 340 nm and emission at 465 nm) with no false positive results and few false negative results in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
