titleOfInvention System for analyzing chemical and biological samples
abstract Method and apparatus for analyzing chemical and biological samples comprising at least one slide (12, 14) having an electrically conductive surface (16, 18), a sample (24) to be analyzed, means (10, 20) for induction of an electrostatic field in the sample to force the particles of said sample to selectively reorient themselves or to migrate to a new position, and means (22) for analyzing said migrating particles. In one embodiment, an electric field activates a nematic fluid dye (47) which identifies particles in the sample. By altering the electrical characteristics of a sample and passing an electrical wave through the sample, the resulting change in the wave indicates the composition of the sample.
