titleOfInvention SWITCH WITH AN ELECTRONIC, FAULT-SENSITIVE UNIT TO CONTROL THE TRIP.
abstract A circuit breaker (1) is provided with an electronic unit (2) for detecting leaks and initiating tripping having increased versatility and capacity to coordinate the circuit breaker with other interrupting and protection devices in a large variety of electrical distribution systems. The electronic circuits (77) and components (63, 98, 190, 231) are provided to vary the circuit breaker amperage, to adjust the current carrying capacity, to produce long-time delay, short-time delay, and instantaneous tripping according to the amplitude of large leakage currents, to provide tripping of ground losses, to shorten or lengthen the tripping time of short-time delay leakages and ground losses, and to provide shunt tripping . The trigger mechanism (5) is magnetic and mechanical, and includes a piston (301) movable between a trigger position and a non-trigger position controlled by an electronic switch (161) in the electronic circuit, and a lever mechanism (4) which is unlocked by the piston when the latter moves to the release position. A bimetallic trip mechanism (350) is provided as additional protection in the event that ambient temperature not sensed by the electronic circuitry exceeds a predetermined value.
