A very sensitive and specific reagent for the detection of infectious mononucleosis in body fluids, in particular blood serum, by agglutination consists of a suspension of mammalian (in particular horse) erythrocytes, which is treated with sulfosalicylic acid until it turns brown and, if necessary, is subsequently treated with e.g. Coomassie-Blue or Ziehl-Neelsens carbol fuchsin solution were colored. |
