The invention provides a process for inhibiting scaling in evaporative desalination units which is characterized by the addition to the water to be treated of a copolymer derived from maleic acid or its anhydride and allyl sulfonic acid. The process provides improved inhibition of both calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide scaling. |
