The invention relates to water-soluble copolymers consisting of (a) 80 to 2% by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated C3 to C5 carboxylic acid, acrylamidodimethylpropanesulfonic acid, vinyl sulfonic acid, vinyl phosphoric acid or a dialkylaminoalkyl (meth) acrylic ester or mixtures of the named monomers and (b) 20 to 98% by weight of a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound of the formula <IMAGE> in which R³ is an alkyl group having 1 to 20 C atoms or an optionally C1- to C12-alkyl-substituted phenyl group, R <4> = H or -CH3, n = 2 up to 100 and m = 0 to 50, are built up as characteristic monomers, and the use of the copolymers as an additive to aqueous polymer solutions, dispersions of the preparations prepared therefrom, such as paints, coating slips, sealants and adhesives. |
