It is a process for the preparation of 4,6-dihalotriazines of the formula which are substituted in the 2-position claimed. For this purpose, trihalogen compounds of the formula RC (Hal 2 ) 3 , in which R can be aryl, aryloxy or an aromatic heterocyclic radical, with a halogen cyan of the formula Hal 1 -CN at temperatures of about 50 to 200 ° C in the presence of Lewis acids and optionally reacted in the presence of an inert solvent. n n n The process products can be used, for example, as intermediates for dyes or pesticides.
