abstract (4-Oxy-3- (aryl) phenyl) -azaryl or -arylcabonyloxy compounds, in the free or acid addition salt form, are useful as pharmaceuticals for the treatment and prophylaxis of inflammation; particularly inflammatory or obstructive airway diseases, for example, for asthma therapy. Preferred compounds are new compounds of biphenyl pyridines, biphenyl benzamides and fibenyl phenylcarboxy. The compounds are selective inhibitors of PDE4 isoenzyme activity and also act to down-regulate or inhibit TNF-a release.
