Decarboxylation is carried out at a temperature in the range from 200 to 239 ° C. Methacrylic acid is isolated from the aqueous reaction medium using a purification method that does not include introducing an organic solvent into the aqueous reaction medium to extract methacrylic acid with the solvent in the organic phase. A method for producing polymers or copolymers of methacrylic acid or esters of methacrylic acid is also described. |
