abstract The invention relates to a method for extracting polycarboxylic acid from an aqueous mixture, comprising the steps of: providing an aqueous mixture comprising a polycarboxylic acid and at least 5% by weight of a dissolved halide salt, based on the total weight of the water and the solute in the aqueous mixture; extracting a polycarboxylic acid from an aqueous mixture into a first organic liquid comprising an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of ketones and ethers, resulting in an organic polycarboxylic acid solution and aqueous liquid wastes including a halide salt, and extracting the polycarboxylic acid from an organic solution carboxylic acid into an aqueous liquid, resulting in a water solution of polycarboxylic acid and a second organic liquid. The method according to the invention allows to provide an integrated stage of purification and concentration for feeding solutions of polycarboxylic acids.
