abstract The present invention relates to the field of biotransformation of furan compounds. More specifically, the present invention relates to new genetically modified cells with improved characteristics for the biocatalytic transformation of furan compounds and to a vector suitable for genetic modification of the host cell. Another object of the invention focuses on methods for biotransformation of 5- (hydroxymethyl) furan-2-carboxylic acid (GMP-acid) and its precursors using the cells of the invention.
