Compounds are disclosed, including rifamycin derivatives having antibacterial activity, where the compounds are of the formula I, where R is hydrogen or acetyl, R and R are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, (C) alkyl, benzyloxy, mono- and di- (C) alkylamino (C) alkyl, (C) alkoxy (C) alkyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxy (C) alkyl and nitro, or R and R, taken together with two consecutive carbon atoms of the pyridine ring, form a benzene ring, possibly substituted with one or two methyl or ethyl groups, and R represents is hydroxy (C) alkyl. In addition, methods for preparing these compounds are described. The compounds have antibacterial activity. |
