Among topical preparations, some are used only topically, for example, framycetin, neomycin, loteprednola ebanoate, etc. However, the vast majority of topical ophthalmic drugs are also used for general action, for example, ciproflocacin, gentamicin, timolol, clonidine, dexamethasone, betamethasone, carbachol, and the like. Some of these drugs have also been found to have common effects when used topically, and, if they are serious in nature, this limits the use of this drug, for example, cardiopulmonary effects of such B-blocking agents as timolol.
