This invention relates to methods for treating insulin resistance in a mammal in which an effective amount of a compound of the formula I is administered to said mammal; pharmaceutically acceptable salts and prodrugs. The compounds of formula (I) are agents that stimulate the secretion of growth hormone, and as such can be used to increase the level of endogenous growth hormone. In another aspect of the present invention, some intermediates are proposed that can be used in the synthesis of the above-mentioned compounds, and some of the methods used to synthesize these intermediates and compounds of formula (I). In addition, this invention relates to methods in which a combination of a functional somatostatin antagonist, such as an α-2-adrenergic agonist, and a compound of formula (I) are administered to a person or other animal. The international application was published together with an international search report. |
