The subject invention provides methods for increasing the concentration of nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells, comprising administering a compound of formula I in which R is hydrogen, —OH, —O (C1-C10 alkyl), —OCO (C-C1-6 alkyl) or —OCOAr, where Ar denotes phenyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R denotes R, -Cl or -F; Rb is 1-pyrrolidinyl, 1-piperidinyl or 1-hexamethylenimino; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof.
