What is proposed is a composite pigment for a paint formulation containing a metal oxide as the first component and a second component selected from the group consisting of silicon dioxide, zinc oxide, aluminum oxide, antimony oxide, barium oxide, magnesium oxide and zirconium dioxide, where: metal oxide in as the first component, at least partially covered with the second component; said metal oxide in the first component is selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide, alumina, antimony oxide, barium oxide, magnesium oxide and zirconia; the particle size of the metal oxide of the specified first component is in the range from 5 to 100 nm; and (A) the composite pigment is a mixture of nanorods and particles with a versatile morphological structure; or (B) the composite pigment has a hollow core-shell structure, wherein the particle size and amount of said composite pigment is chosen to increase the hiding power of said paint formulation. |
