abstract A composite based on a porous interconnected folded carbon network (ICCN) and methods for its preparation are described. The porous ICCN composite is formed from a plurality of carbon layers that are interconnected and stretched apart from each other to form a plurality of pores. Metal nanoparticles are located in the specified set of pores. In one embodiment of the invention, a method is described for producing a porous ICCN composite by exposure to light alone. In another embodiment, a method is described for preparing a porous ICCN composite by exposure to light and an electrodeposition technique. In another illustrative embodiment, a capacitor is described having a first electrode and a second electrode separated from the first electrode by a dielectric, wherein at least one of the first electrode and the second electrode is formed from a porous ICCN composite.
