ESTABLISHMENT OF A BANK OF MESENCHIMAL STROMAL CELLS FROM COMBINED MONONUCLEAR CELLS OF SEVERAL BONE MARROW DONORS |
abstract |
The present invention relates to an improved mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) composition and method for its preparation. The present invention relates to a novel strategy for the isolation of MSC from bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNC) by combining BM-MNCs from unrelated (third party) bone marrow donors. An MSC composition made according to the methodology of the present invention has a stable proliferative capacity and an increased immunosuppressive potential compared to an MSC composition from individual donors or a pool of individual MSCs from multiple donors. MSCs produced in accordance with the present invention are particularly useful for medical applications such as the treatment of graft versus host disease (GvHD) in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients suffering from autoimmune disorders and as cell therapy in regenerative medicine. |
