METHOD FOR INDUCING TUMOR SIZE REDUCTION IN A HUMAN SUBJECT WITH CANCER |
abstract |
The invention relates to a method for inducing a human subject having cancer, (i) destroying more than 70% of the cancer cells in the tumor volume (Vt) or (ii) reducing the tumor size by more than 20%, wherein said method comprises the step of administering to said subject a composition having a volume (Vc), wherein the composition contains inorganic nanoparticles having a volume (Vin), wherein said volume (Vin) has an electron density of at least 5 times the electron density of the corresponding volume 1 (Vw1) of water; and the step of exposing the tumor to said subject to ionizing radiation, thereby inducing in the human subject having cancer, (i) destruction of more than 70% of the cancer cells in the tumor volume (Vt) or (ii) reduction of the tumor size by more than 20%, where the volume (Vc) of the composition occupies between 2 and 15% of the tumor volume (Vt), and inorganic nanoparticles provide more than 7 × 10 electrons per tumor mass. The invention provides an unexpectedly effective therapeutic effect in the concentration of nanoparticles inside a tumor and exposing them to ionizing radiation. |
