A method for precipitating a polymer and a deactivated organometallic catalyst in an olefin oligomerization reaction is provided. The method includes obtaining an effluent from an olefin oligomerization reaction. The effluent may include a polymer and an organometallic catalyst. The method may further include introducing particles of the sorbent into the effluent. Sorbent particles may include a deactivating agent. The deactivating agent may be water, alcohol, amine, amino alcohol, or an appropriate combination. At least 10% of the sorbent particles may have a particle size in the range of 10 to 60 microns. The method may further include cooling the effluent, which results in the precipitation of the polymer and the deactivated organometallic catalyst from the effluent, and a precipitate is obtained that includes a sorbent, a polymer and a deactivated catalyst. |
