The invention provides a method for producing an extract from sugar cane, comprising i) mixing a product obtained from sugar cane with ethanol to obtain an extraction mixture containing from about 70 to about 85% v / v. ethanol; ii) precipitate formation in said extraction mixture; iii) removing said precipitate from the extraction mixture to obtain a supernatant; and iv) removing ethanol from the supernatant to obtain an extract obtained from sugarcane. The invention further provides extracts obtained by the method of the invention. The invention also provides the use of such extracts in a method of reducing the available caloric content of a food or drink, in treating or preventing a disease, and as a food additive, dietary supplement, sports nutrition product, food coating, or pharmaceutical product. |
