abstract The invention relates to a sunscreen composition comprising: a) 0.01-10 wt.% Dibenzoylmethane or its derivatives, selected from 4-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane, 2-methyldibenzoylmethane, 4-isopropyldibenzoylmethane, 4-tert.-butyldibenzoylmethane, 2,4-dimethyldibenzoylmethane, 2,5-dimethyldibenzoylmethane, 4,4'-diisopropyldibenzoylmethane, 2-methyl-5-isopropyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane, 2-methyl-5-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane, 2.4 -dimethyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane or 2,6-dimethyl-4-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane; b) 0.01-10% by weight of an oil-soluble UV-B organic sunscreen selected from cinnamic acid, salicylic acid, diphenylacrylic acid and their ester derivatives; c) 0.01-10 wt.% non-ionic surfactant; d) 0.05-15% by weight of a compound of the formula wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen or a linear or branched C1-C30 alkoxy group, where R1 and R2 are not hydrogen at the same time; and R3 is a straight or branched chain C1-C30 alkyl group; and e) 10-99% by weight of a cosmetically acceptable base comprising 5-25% by weight of a fatty acid of a cosmetically acceptable base, the composition comprising at least 6% by weight of fatty acid. The aim of the present invention is to provide photo-protective sunscreen compositions with a high SPF, while ensuring the long-term effectiveness of the UV-A sun-protection agents used in them when using relatively low amounts of sun-protection agents, thereby maintaining a low price.
