abstract The invention provides a method for producing a genetically modified plant that has an increased productivity potential compared to a control plant, this method comprising the steps i) of producing a plurality of plants, at least one of which contains in its genome a heterologous polynucleotide, ii) identifying of this plurality of plants of a plant that has an increased productivity potential relative to a control plant and contains a heterologous polynucleotide, and iii) selecting this cally modified plant, wherein the polynucleotide comprises a transcriptional regulatory sequence operably linked to a nucleic acid sequence which encodes an agent that modifies endogenous starch phosphorylation and / or starch degradation in the plant. In some embodiments, the implementation of this plant has an increased endogenous glycosylase or increased digestibility in comparison with the control plant. In some specific embodiments, the implementation of phosphorylation of endogenous starch and / or degradation of starch is modified by modifying the expression or activity of one or more enzymes selected from the group consisting of α-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1), β-amylase (EC 3.2.1.2), glucoamylase (EU 3.2.1.3), starch phosphorylase (EU 2.4.1.1), glycosylases (EU 3.1.3.3), sucrase-isomaltase (EU 3.2.10), amylomaltase (EU 2.4.1.25), maltase (EU 3.2.1.20), isoamylase and α-glucan-water-dikinase (GWD, EC 2.7.9.4).
