abstract | A new bidentate catalytic ligand of general formula (I) is described. R is a hydrocarbyl aromatic structure having at least one aromatic ring, to which each of Q and Q is connected via a corresponding linking group, on accessible adjacent atoms of at least one aromatic ring. Groups X and X represent radicals linked through tertiary carbon atoms to the corresponding Q atom, and groups X and X represent radicals joined through the primary carbon atom (s) of the carbon or substituted carbon atom (s) of the aromatic ring with the corresponding Q, A and B atoms, each independently, represent a alkylene binding group. Q and Q, each independently, represent a phosphorus atom. A method for carbonylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds is also described, comprising reacting a compound with carbon monoxide in the presence of a source of hydroxyl groups, optionally an anion source and a catalytic system, which can be obtained by combining a compound of a metal of group 8, 9 or 10 and a bidentate ligand of general formula (I) |
