abstract |
A method for obtaining water-soluble cellulose hydrolysis products is described. The method consists in mixing cellulose with an ionic liquid that is capable of solvating or dissolving at least some of the cellulose, wherein the ionic liquid is a compound consisting only of cations and anions and exists in a liquid state at a temperature of 150 ° C or lower, in which the anions are selected from sulfate, acid sulfate and nitrate; and in treating the resulting solvate or solution with an acid in the presence of water, said acid having a pKa in water of less than 2 at a temperature of 25 ° C. |
