abstract Method and device for coating a pipe (2) or a pipe section using a layer of at least one polymer. This method includes providing a pipe (2) or a pipe section having an external surface defining an external circumference of the pipe or pipe section; drawing on the outer surface of the pipe or pipe section a layer of at least one polymeric material in the molten state using an extrusion head (3) mounted on a trolley configured to move along the outer circumference of the pipe (2) or pipe section; and moving the carriage at least along part of the outer circumference during application of the polymeric material to form a layer covering at least a part of the surface of the pipe (2) or a section of the pipe. The outer surface of the pipe or pipe section is locally heated using an induction heater before applying the polymer material on the specified surface. The invention is particularly suitable for coating piping connections during installation.
